Steve Chalker dedicated his career to recycling. Throughout his changing job titles within the field, Steve was a member of the Michigan Recycing Coalition. Much of his time was spent on the Board of Directors, including serving as the Chair of the Board. 

In August 2014, the MRC Board met for a planning retreat at the DNR Conference Center on Higgins Lake. A key topic throughout these meetings was the Recycle, MI campaign. Steve became energized about the idea and was ready to take the helm to use the campaign to attract new individuals to the MRC to support recycling on a very broad level. But a week after this meeting, Steve passed away. 

The Steve Chalker Memorial Fund was created so that those who want to continue Steve's work with the Recycle, MI campaign have a way to do so. The fund is used for expenses related to event recycling. Event recycling provides the unique opportunity for interaction and education on recycling with large amounts of people while they are out having fun! The goal of Recycle, MI is to have people recycle where they live, work, and play. Steve liked to focus on the "play" part of life, making donated funds a true embodiment of Steve's passions, fostering new and expanded recycling efforts at events across the state.
