Midland Recyclers is a nonprofit recycling center started in 1987. As the organization celebrates its 37th year, it continues to make significant strides in promoting recycling, educating the public, and fostering partnerships with businesses and the community.

Midland Recyclers operates a self-serve drop-off recycling center located at the Midland landfill. With a mission to educate the public on the benefits of recycling, the organization takes pride in providing the means and know-how for individuals to participate in recycling programs. Midland Recyclers accepts a wide range of items, including batteries, plastic bags, glass, electronics, polystyrene, and vinyl siding. The center relies on contributions of volunteers and invites participation from individuals of all ages, including kids from schools and those with disabilities.

The organization also serves over 100 businesses in the Great Lakes Bay region. Their business recycling program, which picks up from 10-15 businesses daily, aids companies in achieving their sustainability goals by handling their hard-to-recycle items. Collaborating with over 30 artists, Midland Recyclers also runs a shop dedicated to reusing and upcycling unique items. This initiative not only supports local artists but also promotes the importance of finding creative ways to give items a new life.

For Midland Recyclers, their core focus lies in helping people. By providing work experience, job opportunities, handling hard-to-recycle materials, and serving those without curbside options, the organization aims to make a tangible impact on both individuals and the environment. Midland Recyclers aims to grow its business recycling program by recruiting more businesses. They have identified needs at the state level which include continued support through grant programs, encouragement of businesses to make products more recyclable, and the promotion of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

Midland Recyclers have collaborated with a company called Novac which produces a recycled glass sand product and kitty litter, directly at the recycling drop-off center. This process gives tourers a chance to watch recycling processing in action.

Midland Recyclers showcases the impact a community-driven organization can have on promoting recycling and sustainability. As the organization continues to grow and innovate, it remains dedicated to making a positive difference in the world of recycling.
