Resource Recycling Systems (RRS) is at the forefront of driving change in Michigan's recycling landscape. With a focus on organics management and the circular economy, RRS offers tailored solutions to meet the diverse needs of its clients, ranging from trade associations to public and private sector entities. In a recent interview, RRS representatives provided insight into the organization's key initiatives, collaborative approach, and vision for the future.

Founded on materials and organics management principles, RRS emphasizes implementing customized programs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. With a team of over 65 experts globally and 24 local to Michigan, RRS works tirelessly to bring national solutions to local communities. Drawing inspiration from best practices across the nation, RRS continually seeks innovative strategies to enhance recycling systems in Michigan and beyond.

One of RRS's most successful initiatives is NextCycle Michigan, an accelerator program supporting recycling, recovery, and reuse initiatives. The program offers unique opportunities to connect entrepreneurs, companies, organizations, and communities to technical support, financial resources, and capacity building. RRS's NextCycle program operates in Colorado, Michigan, and Washington and exemplifies the company's commitment to fostering collaboration and partnership within the recycling ecosystem.

RRS says that the value of their work lies not just in what they do but in how they do it. With a proven track record spanning over 35 years, RRS approaches recycling and organics collaboratively, bringing the best minds together, empowering team members to lean into their interests and strengths, and welcoming new opinions and insights within and across projects. Recently, RRS staffer Coryanne Mansell won the Young Professional of the Year award from the US Composting Council. Coryanne's expertise in organics management shows how much RRS values building knowledge about different parts of the materials management industry, especially as communities begin to envision a more robust collection system across the state.

Looking ahead, RRS identifies several areas for growth and innovation, including construction and demolition waste, textile circularity, EPR policies, and organics. "Materials Management Planning is our bread and butter," says RRS Senior Consultant and NextCycle Project Manager Elisa Seltzer. As counties embark on the multiyear planning process, RRS hopes to guide communities across the state and offer their diverse expertise. They know the value of planning for recycling and organics management systems so that plans are actionable and can be successfully implemented and sustained over time. Through proactive engagement with communities and stakeholders, RRS ensures that its solutions have a tangible impact on the communities and clients they serve.

In conclusion, Resource Recycling Systems is not just a consultancy firm; it's a catalyst for change in Michigan's recycling ecosystem. By leveraging expertise, fostering collaboration, and embracing innovation, RRS is a driving force in shaping Michigan's transition toward a circular economy.
