Did you know that minerals like zinc and manganese can be extracted from end-of-life batteries and safely used as added nutrients in soil? There are many applications for the critical materials that are extracted from batteries when they are recycled. From batteries used to power electric vehicles to household batteries in TV remotes, Cirba Solutions has innovative technologies to extract and return critical minerals back into the supply chain.

Cirba Solutions uses advanced technology to extract materials such as lithium-ion, alkaline, zinc carbon, primary lithium, and more from end-of-life and scrap batteries. Cirba Solutions is a fully-integrated battery recycling materials and management company, meaning they collect, transport, sort batteries by chemistry type, and process them to extract the critical materials to be used in new products. Furthermore, all components of the battery are recycled, including steel, plastic, etc. to truly create a circular economy.

Cirba Solutions understands and educates others on the importance of battery recycling and safety, emphasizing that their battery recycling efforts prevent batteries from ending up in landfills, reduces dependence on foreign sources, and supports domestic, locally-driven circular economies.

Have you ever dropped your used batteries off at a Batteries Plus retailer to be recycled? Chances are, these batteries were recycled by Cirba Solutions! Collecting used batteries from this national retail chain is one of the ways Cirba Solutions educates and empowers the public to recycle batteries. They also sell WeRecycle Kits that businesses, municipalities, residents, and others can use to safely collect used batteries and ship them to one of their six facilities across North America, giving them the largest battery recycling operational footprint in that region. Cirba Solutions goes a step further by partnering with local communities and organizations for their hazardous waste collection events, which gives people another way to safely recycle their batteries.

Cirba Solutions is staying ahead of the curve when it comes to electric vehicle battery recycling. As demand for electric vehicles increases, they’ve begun increasing their capacity when it comes to recycling and processing lithium-ion EV batteries at their Lancaster, Ohio facility. With the more than $82 million in funding the company received from the U.S. Department of Energy, its Lancaster site is undergoing a large expansion, and when fully operational, will provide enough battery-grade salts to power more than 250,000 EV batteries annually. These battery-grade salts are a critical ingredient that manufacturers can incorporate into new EV batteries.

Additionally, In September of 2024, Cirba Solutions received $200 million in funding from the U.S. DOE to build its lithium-ion processing facility in South Carolina. When fully operational, the processing site will provide enough battery-grade salts for more than 500,000 EV batteries annually.

Cirba Solutions is dedicated to educating and empowering Michigan residents and businesses on the importance of reducing battery waste while increasing our country’s domestic capacity to recycle and reuse the valuable materials within them. They are committed to continue partnering with both state and federal agencies to expand battery recycling capacity and educate local communities on how and why to recycle their end-of-life batteries.
