Meijer

Meijer operates under the philosophy that to be a good company, they must be a good neighbor. Through environmental stewardship, they strive to protect clean water, air, and land for the people and communities they serve. Meijer also pursues eco-friendly initiatives in order to benefit customers and reduce environmental impact.

All Meijer distribution centers and manufacturing facilities participate in their Resource Conservation program to recycle metal, plastic, wood, cardboard, paper, plastic bags, and other miscellaneous items. Every year, Meijer keeps more than 200,000 tons of material from the landfill through recycling.

Meijer distribution centers and manufacturing facilities all have programs to divert food waste from the landfill to better uses that reduce carbon emissions and have other environmental benefits. One such program is Flashfood, launching their app-based pilot program in November 2019 at a handful of Meijer supercenters in Metro Detroit. After reducing in-store food waste by 10 percent, they expanded the offering to all stores.
